I have very little food-making experience and even less food-making talent. Until a few years ago, I also had very unrealistic expectations about the effort and skill required for good food. I blame my mom for this. She is an exceptional cook, and because of this, I grew up thinking made-from-scratch, without a recipe, three course dinners made from organic produce and free-range meats were easy and simple enough to be a daily occurrence. This is not the case. At 26 years old, the only meal I can actually make consistently well is baked beans and cottaged cheese. (I know it sounds weird, but try it and you'll never go back!) Embarrassed to be lacking in such an essential life skill, I made a new year's resolution to become a better cook (intentionally vague so as to be more achievable). My thought is that if skill comes with practice, then I've simply got to start making stuff. My sister, and housemate, Micale, has agreed to participate in the following challenge: between the two of us, we plan on making one new recipe a week and writing about it. We believe in realistic goals, so we haven't given ourselves any more parameters than those. It doesn't have to be healthy, it doesn't have to take 6 hours, and most importantly, it doesn't have to be palatable.
One recipe. One post. Each week. 52 weeks. Starting now. Go.
