Week 3 Recipe 3: Filet Mignon

Probably a little ambitious for week 3, but filet mignon is a favorite of mine, and Jordan and I had a date night and felt up for a challenge. We watched several videos on cooking techniques and strategies, and found one from Tasty to be very helpful. Watch it here if you're interested!

We set out our steaks out at room temperature for half an hour before seasoning them generously with salt and pepper. Then we seared them a few minutes each side in a skillet, basting them with butter and garlic before baking them 7 minutes in the oven at 400 degrees.


The steaks were delicious although we did overcook them slightly, I suspect because we got a little carried away with the basting and seared them too long. Fortunately, we grabbed a third steak (incase of disaster), and our third attempt was perfectly medium rare and absolutely scrumptious!

I was surprised at how easy it ended up being. 100% a meal I'll make again!
